Rachel's First Shower

I spent a lot of time picking out some awesome yarns and knitting up a bunch of dishcloths, washcloths, and the like for my soon to be sister-in-law over the last few months. Finally over the last two weeks we have had 3 wedding showers for me to divide them up and give them all to her. I had to come up with a way to divide them up, so for shower number 1 I went with all the kitchen cloths. I managed to not get a picture of the Friendship Chain Cloth or the orange and black scrubbie that was completed in the car on the way to the shower and tied to the bow on top of the present. This is the Lionbrand dishcloth pattern. Its always knits up nicely and is a good one for pretty variegated yarns. :-) All of these dishcloths were Sugar and Cream naturals, btw. The little scrubbie above is also sugar and cream, even though the original pattern calls for acrylic yarns and has you spear the scrubbie on a fork and stick it in the dishwasher to clean it. I thought this might be easier. Bu

I couldn't decide

It was such a big decision what to do with my new found knitting freedom, I stood in the middle of my craft room forever, just contemplating.  I started pulling out sock yarn and needles and patterns, but then I wasn't sure I wanted to start socks last night.  So I put that all away again.  Then I thought about making myself some kitchen scrubbies, since after I made some for Rachel and Ben was helping me do the dishes he asked if I had any, which is of course, no.  But then I thought that was too easy, more of a take along to the ballgame or whatnot type knitting, and lords knows we will be going to plenty of ballgames.  Tonight, even.  So I ended up pulling out the Candle Flame shawl/wrap/thing I started long, long ago in a land far, far away called California sitting in Eva's Needlework (surrounded by superawesomewonderful people).  I miss that place and those people.  Anyway, I took that with me to knitting and conquered the problem of getting started again on something tha

Woo-hoo!

I'm done!  All of my wedding knitting for my brother's fiance is done and my deadlines are over and done and now I can knit WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT!  So what did I do all yesterday afternoon?  Housework.  I didn't manage to sit down and knit even one damn stitch after Ben and I got home from the wedding shower.  We did, however plant azaleas in the front flower bed and white and purple heather under the kitchen windows and a dwarf burning bush between the house and the ugly utility meters and onions and lettuce in the garden.  It all looks very nice, so I am not sorry we did all that.  I'm not sorry we did any particular bit of the housework either, its just where did all the time go?  Somewhere between the mountain of dishes and the laundry and bathing the dogs and making the bed and cleaning the bathroom and finally fixing a very late dinner at 9, the day just got away from me.  So I guess I will have to wait until tonight to explore my new found knitting freedom.  W

oh, baby, baby

Meet Addy, my new favorite model. Isn't she cute? Just perfect in every way. In the picture above she is wearing the gnome hat I made her. The yarn is called teddy bear and is soooooo soft you just want to sit there and stroke it. Perfect for soft little baby heads. In this picture Addy models the Spring Flowers beanie I gave her for christmas. It was a quick knit with lots of fluff and stretch. The purples, yellows, and greens are muted by the soft white fluff on the edges of the ribbon yarn. In a previous post Addy was seen modeling a waaaay too big for her (but she'll totally grow into it) pink and cream cotton Umbilical Cord hat from the Stitch 'N Bitch book. And i totally can't wait until she grows into the brightly colored cotton bonnet I made from the pattern in last minute knitted gifts. :-) And that will be all for my I-knit-awesome-baby-hats infomercial.

And its Knit, Knit, Knit at the Ball Park...

Last night was the home opener for the Tulsa Drillers, so I cut out of knitting group early and Ben and I went over to Drillers stadium to meet up with the folks and catch the game.  Mom and I both took our knitting, happened to both be washcloths.  We got a couple of comments and few looks but no harassment.  Mom told the Drillers recently that they need to get on the Stitch N Pitch bandwagon.  After all, if OKC can have a stitch n pitch night, why can't we?  And speaking of Stitch N Pitch in OKC, can I go to that?  No.  Its the night of my brother's wedding.  Humbug.  So I looked up Stitch N Pitch night for Ben's favorite team.  Can I go to Stitch N Pitch for the Royals?  No.  Its the day after my brother's wedding.  Is there a conspiracy to have all the Stitch N Pitch games at the same time.  I haven't done it yet, but I am going to look up my dad's favorite team next and see if maybe I can go to the Stitch N Pitch night for the St. Louis Cardinals.  If its m

Freedom!

Well, folks, April 15th has come and gone.  And I am soooooo happy.  My weekends will be my own again.  My workdays will end at reasonable hours and will not follow me home.  And best of all I can sit in front of the tv and knit and not think about all the work I brought home that I need to do.  Last night I went and got a pedicure with my mom.  It was wonderful.  I took some knitting I was working on and made good use of the relaxing time.  Then after a healthy (thats our new goal) home cooked meal with Ben I got to sit down and knit some more.  Even though I was just working on small things, it felt so good to just be able to knit guilt free.  Tonight I even get to go see my thursday night knitting group for the first time in a month or more.  Its seriously been forever.  It is with a great sense of relief and joy and little flowers on my cute blue toesies that I go forth and greet the day today.
