Bark in the Park

Last saturday was crazy busy.  I went to the Jenks herb festival early in the morning, then to my friend's son's 2nd birthday party and then in the evening the whole family went out to Bark in the Park.  And I do mean the whole family (ok, those of us in town).  Bark in the Park is sponsored by the humane society and they have dogs there for adoption and you can bring your own dog to watch the baseball game.  Riley was adopted from Bark in the Park in 2008 and has been in attendance every year since.  There were a lot of people and a lot of dogs this year.  Luckily it was cooler that last year and this time Ben got to come too!  Managing both dogs by myself can be hard in a crowd since sometime Ripley just stops because he either gets freaked or doesn't want to go up or down stairs or sometimes he just stops and rolls over because he thinks belly rubs in the middle of the walkway are perfectly acceptable.  Riley on the other hand is always straining to get somewhere.  You c

Where has the week gone?

Geez, what happened to this week?  I remember Wednesday morning thinking the week was going soooo slowly, but now suddenly it is Friday afternoon and I wonder how that happened.  What did I do this week?  I'm honestly having to actually think about that.  I was over at Truly Lovely getting ready to hop into the Fancy This Friday linky party when I had to sit back and really think about what I had made this week.  I decided that my week of meals from leftovers qualified, so if you want to see what everyone else did, pop over there and take a look around. I did start another cute cotton baby bonnet that I will share with you as soon as its done.  Its a take off of the whole color block thing that seems to be really popular right now.  And its bright and fun.  Why should babies be limited to pastels?  I would like to get a few more things done before next weekend's show at Ida Red, but the time seems to be getting away from me. I have high hopes for that show.  I have high ho

Refreshing Remix

What do you do with a ton of Easter left overs and a big order of fresh produce from your favorite local farmer?  If you are smart (and don't like eating straight leftovers day after day) then you try and come up with a week's worth of interesting ways to "remix" those leftovers.  I do subscribe to waste not, want not but I also like flavor and variety. What did I start with? Leftovers: Beef Tenderloin barbeque chicken poppyseed/sesame seed/homemade vinegarette (Ben ate all the deviled eggs and is working his way through the rolls) Produce: Big bag of spinach big bag of mesclun greens fresh made goat cheddar fresh made chevre asparagus bag of strawberries I picked myself last wednesday Meal 1: Monday night was a fantastic salad. Fluff a whole bunch of spinach, top with fresh fruit (mandarin oranges, blueberries, sliced strawberries, slivered almonds, generous dollops of chevre and tasty vinaigrette.  Add leftover beef tenderloin just before eating.  I eat mine with

A Tuesday Wishlist

Just a few things I am drooling over this week. Beautiful roving from Dawning Dreams    I actually insisted on having muscari in my wedding flowers.  I saw some bouquets made of it and using it as accent and no one knew what I was talking about!  Non-flower people and even some flower people call muscari Grape Hyacinth.  Who knew.  All I knew is I wanted it. I really want  this simple skirt  for road tripping and lounging. (although this ready to ship listing is the wrong size) I did more than drool over this hat , I actually bought it.  (It came in the mail yesterday and I LOVE it) This simple but lovely  dress . Linking up with: Be sure to go check out the rest of the party.

Wheel!

Last weekend, not the one that just happened, but the one before that, I finally had time to put a pretty finish on my wheel.  It had been waiting patiently in it's box in the garage for me to have time for it.  Between tax season and spring craft shows, I hadn't managed to find a spare few hours.    Ben got me all set up outside with the finish and a paint brush and rags and a plywood "table" to work on.  It was an easy process but the wind wanted to make it a complicated one.  The hardest part was that after you apply one coat you have to wait 30 minutes and then apply a second coat and wait 15 minutes and then wipe the excess off with a rag.  It was hard to keep track of how long it had been since I had coated each piece, since there were a zillion pieces.  It was worth every bit of the effort though.  Ben had helped me pick out a natural stain to show the beauty of the all wood wheel.  All of those pretty rolly pieces kept getting blown around by the wind.  And

And There Was This Festival

My Saturday Snapshot this week is me and my friend Sandi at Vegoose the first year. We all had a blast.  If you have never heard of Vegoose, it was a 2 day music festival in Las Vegas and a lot of the same people who played at Bonaroo on any given year would also play at Vegoose.  You couldn't camp out there, which was sad, but it was a fantastic festival environment all the same. I miss going to festivals.  I really love the whole festival atmosphere.  Not, not the crazy drunks or anything, just the barefoot dancing or laying on a blanket listening to an afternoon set or shopping in hippie village and meeting new people and all of that.  I haven't been to a good festival in years. It may be a totally different kind of thing, but there year there is one festival I am going to try and hit.  The Woodie Guthrie Festival.  Yes, for reals.  But if you read my post about John McCutcheon then you understand that I would probably fit in just fine at the Woodie Guthie festival.  Its t

The Pearl

This past weekend I had the honor of participating in a local revitalization effort called Polishing the Pearl.  A group of make:Tulsa / Indie Emporium vendors came together and put up a pop-up shop for the weekend event.  Our space was small but we made it bright, cozy and fun using our displays and wares but also our enjoyment of being together and loving what we do.  Bifftastica, Sunshine & Carousels, Gleeful Peacock, HollyRocks, The Knit Owl, Weather & Noise and I all shared the space.  (That would be Erin of SAC being goofy in the pic above and Briana of Bifftastica waving in the pic below)  You can find links to all of these great makers on both the make:Tulsa and the Indie Emporium websites. We were really happy to see the number of people who turned out in support of this event and who volunteered to help out.  I can't wait to see what the future holds for this area. Read more about it here on make:Tulsa  and here on HollyRocks .  There are also tons more pictur

Old Soul

Last night the world's most wonderful husband drove me all the way to the Jazz Lab in Edmond, Oklahoma to see John McCutcheon.  Now, I can hear many of you asking yourselves who in the heck John McCutcheon is, so let me just tell you he is amazing.  I understand I might lose some of you here, but this man plays the most awesome banjo.  He also plays the auto-harp, piano, guitar, juice harp, hammer dulcimer, Tibetan singing bowl, the list goes on.  He's a folk musician.  I have like 10 of his cd's.   He has been around long enough that his website is literally folkmusic.com .  Seriously, you should click it.  He plays every year in Winfield Kansas at the Walnut Valley Music Festival, which I am dying to go to.  Anyway, back to last night. The Jazz Lab had a very interesting set-up and we enjoyed it quite a bit.  See, they have this cooperative thing going on with Hideaway and you can actually go to the bar inside the club and order pizza.  How cool is that?!?  You just take

Our First Vacation

On our first real vacation (because the drive to illinois to buy my motorcycle and back hardly counts) my super wonderful husband (though just boyfriend at the time) took me to Graceland!  Yes, really.   And I LOVED it!  I heart Elvis.  And Graceland.   The second stop of the day that day was the Memphis Zoo.   I also heart the zoo. See how well he knows me?  I knows that I LOVE Elvis and I LOVE the zoo so at the kick-off to this two week long road trip he took me to both.  Isn't he wonderful? Even though there wasn't an official Saturday Snapshot party last week, I did post my own Saturday Snapshot in the form of 3 pics from our honeymoon in Fiji.  If you missed those and want to see, go here .  Fiji was amazing.

I have not been posting much because...

Tax season sucks. I have been getting up early and hitting the pavement at 5:30 every morning for a nice 3 point some odd mile walk. I joined pinterest.  And what they say is right, it will eat all of your time and you won't even know it.  (I've been on it less than a day and I already know this) I have so many things in my brain its hard to focus on just one and get it down here. I have to get organized for Polishing the Pearl .  (Don't snicker, I didn't name the event) I am working on custom orders.  I promise to take pictures.

Honeymoon Snapshot

I seriously can't believe that Ben and I have been married almost 10 months.  Ok, so that doesn't sound very long at all, but really, it feels like the wedding and all the wedding planning was just yesterday.  And the honeymoon.  Ah, they honeymoon.  It was wonderful. Fiji is such a beautiful place. I picked more than one photo again this week.  Sometimes it is just so hard to choose. I chose this first photo because my husband is really truly smiling in it.  Not a fakey posed smile, but a real grin.  I love it.  I love seeing him like that.  We were on the island where the filmed Castaway at the time, just a little excursion from our island.  Its so pretty on that little uninhabited island. I could have lived in this hammock.  I spent a dang lot of time in this hammock.  It was the most awesome, most comfortable, most perfect hammock in the world.  No other hammock can hold a candle and I will forever long for it. I loved that every evening we wandered down to out little st

I'm giving stuff away

Stop on over at Truly Lovely and enter to win.  They are doing a whole week of giveaways to celebrate their followers and my headbands are being featured today.  You won't want to miss the other sponsors either, everyone is really talented!

Sorry for the absence

I have been sooo tired this week, its been hard to motivate myself to blog and when I have blogged it hasn't really been so much about the knitting.  I have a good reason though, I have spent all my free time this week getting ready for this: I'm really excited about it!  There are going to be something like 200 vendors, but I've been told I will be located near the other make:Tulsa members, which is awesome.  Gleeful Peacock, Bohemian Romance, Bifftastica and Sunshine and Carousels will all have booths.  So if you are in Tulsa, you should come out and see us.  Support your local crafters and your furry friends.  Both of the dogs Ben and I have are adopted, so I know personally that these kinds of organizations are very important.  Without them our little Ripley may not have gotten another chance and Riley's first owner may not have had a safe place to surrender him and might have just dumped him instead.  But because of rescues and people who care we now have the swe

I want, I want

I am linking up again this week with First there is this hat .  Now I know I just got a new hat, but maybe I need another new hat.  A large collection of hats would be lovely.  Seriously, I think this hat is awesome. I think  these napkin rings  may be the coolest napkin rings I have ever seen.  I love how they look rustic and delicate at the same time. I have wanted a  Gleeful Peacock locket  since I first saw her stuff, the problem is that I can't decide which one.  Would someone please tell me that I would like one her lockets the next time he has to buy me something?  I would greatly appreciate it as that would save me from having to decide which one I want.  I tend to gravitate towards the more subtle ones, like this one or one she had on display at PH this past weekend that just had a piece of turquoise lacy metal filigree on it.  And I am not particular on round or oval. This party dress  is just stunning.  And I like the way the seller has photographed and displayed i

:-)

Not gonna lie, I'm loving working with all the spring colors. The blue and green bonnet was a commission for the adorable baby who was modeling my bright pink bonnet a week ago.  It is a slightly larger size than the baby ones.  I think the light blue with green lace is a lovely combination and I hope the proud mama does too. Making and wearing my cotton blend headbands has been a blast.  I have a bunch for the ARF Peace, Love and Crafts show coming up this saturday, April 9th.  Come out and see a whole bunch of lovely local crafters and make sure to stop by my booth.  :-)

Tea Time

For this week's Saturday Snapshot, I am actually doing 3 pictures, but you'll understand why in just a minute.  See, I was browsing through old pictures, and I started looking at some friends' wedding pics.  I went to college with a bunch of awesome folks and we all ended up taking this fantastic class, Chado: The Way of Tea with these wonderful teachers, the Webbs.  Chado, for those who may not be familiar with it, is Japanese tea ceremonies.  The class was taught very well and we all love and respect what those ceremonies mean.  So when it came time for the first of us to get married, Julia decided she wanted to have a tea ceremony as a way of keeping calm and finding focus between getting hair and make-up all done and actually going out there to get married.  Mischa did Julia's tea ceremony and we kept it rather unstructured as tea ceremonies go.  (Julia is the one in the bathrobe by the pillar, I am just to the left of her, next to me is Amanda)  Surely Jim was in o

Stitch Markers!!

I bought some of the worlds most fantastic charms from friend and fellow Tulsa Maker, HollyRocks today.  And I couldn't wait to get started playing with them.  I spent practically my entire evening making stitch markers. Pretty, shiny, sparkly red hearts! Adorable little paw-paw prints! Multi colored hearts!  Notice the dark blue one is glittery, my favorite color in the world is blue. Sprinkle cookies!  How cute is that?!?  I love them!  I want to eat them up. More paw-paws.  Totally appropriate for the ARF show I have coming up in just over a week (OMG, am I ready?!?) Cookie Lover. Mmmm, cookie. A perfect Saturday morning.  :-) Seriously, I'm not sure what more you could want on a lazy morning. shiiiiiiinnnnnyyyyyy. Pretty green leaves!  Yay for spring! A full evening of stitch marker makings. Not all of them are listed in my shop, since I have all of those shows I am doing around here for the next few weeks, but if anyone is interested, each set of 5 is $10, so j
