Back to that whole Vacation thing

I left off after our day in Freeport.  I know this is very spread out and disjointed.  Stay with me though, we really had a wonderful time on our trip. The day after Freeport was Nassau.  I had talked to people who had been there and we had our friend Richard there too, so the three of us decided to hit up the Atlantis Resort.  Its huge and really pretty.  We mostly did the aquarium tour there, since none of us were interested in any gambling.  Jelly fish are always beautiful and make for fun pictures, don't they.  We took a ton hoping to get some nice ones. There were tanks of tiny fish everywhere.  The aquarium is built to look mostly like you are in caves but then outside they have these really large lagoons.  You have to have a map to find your way around the aquarium, its kind of nuts.  We were glad that we spent the morning at the aquarium because it rained off and on all morning. This guy was a bit creepy.  After seeing hi...

Knitting Is My Drug

I am interrupting my slow accounting of our vacation to bring you a quick shop update.   I have started on a new themed line of stitch markers.  These markers are made from polymer clay beads that look like various prescription drugs.  (Disclaimer: They are simply meant to be fun, not to support drug use)  I often hear people I knit with talk of being 'addicted' to knitting or about knitting being their 'therapy' or drug, so here you go!  This first set is a set of five little vicodin.  :-)  Aren't they awesome?  I just love how they turned out.  This next set is 5 capsule style pills.  I love how they came out too and they are varnished to look shiny just like real prescription capsules.  I also did a 'mixed baggie' set with a few of each for the person who wants to really party with their knitting.  ;-)  I can't believe how real they look!  I've had so much fun dreaming up this set that I think I will continue t...

Vacation - Part 1

I'm back from a fantastic 2 week vacation!  There were so many parts to our vacation that it is going to take me days to cover it all.  We left town 2 weeks ago today and drove east.  We took 2.5 days to do the drive across, ultimately to Charleston, and stayed one night with my lovely godsister in her super cute yellow home in a teeny tiny town where we actually ate at a restaurant called Taco Sushi.  Yes, Taco Sushi.  I know it sounds weird.  One side of the menu is all mexican food and the other side is all sushi and apparently they do both well.  It was actually quite fantastic. After leave there it was off to our 5 day cruise to the Bahamas.  I must admit, we weren't all crazy like with the picture taking.  We were a little more into the relaxing and eating.  So. Much. Food.   I did take pictures of our towel animals every evening.  Cause I'm a dork like that and I thought they were cute.  (Although I am not a big e...

Shake Down In T-Town Postmortem

A bit over a week ago, my friend Crystal and I shared a booth at Shake Down in T-Town.   We set up our little booth about 10 o'clock in the morning.  I brought my winter knits as well as my summer ones because if I don't, invariably people ask.   Crystal's jewelry is all on the table with the green cloth.  Its a really cute little display case she has. It was so very hot outside.  I grouped all the cotton and summer accessories together so that people who were not interested in winter stuff wouldn't have to paw through it for the most part. And because it was World Wide Knit in Public Day I went ahead and brought all my stitch markers.  I figured there might be the occasional knitter wandering around. Next to our booth was Crystal's friend Gina who makes the most amazing fire pits. I love this dragonfly motif. And these paisleys.  Absolutely beautiful work. Briana of Bifftastica was just down the way a bit with her jewelry and purses. And there...

Very Late, Very Brief San Diego

This was the view from my hotel room.  My very comfortable, very wonderful hotel room. More from the hotel room.  Really there wasn't much else besides conferencing going on, so I did the occasional admiring of the view. More. Other than the conference, I did manage to run down to the outlet mall on the border and get a bit of shopping in.  Oh and there was the wonderful dinner at Oceanaire Seafood.  Yum.  And the wonderful dinner at Roy's (Hawaiian fusion).  And a visit to my old friends Pinkberry & In & Out.  Dad and I managed to get up way early a couple mornings for some nice long walks along the water. Our conference had a party one night on this retired aircraft carrier.  It was a pretty good time and neat to wander around and look at the displays.   So, that was a super brief recap of San Diego.  It was actually a really good conference and I enjoyed most of my classes.  It was just too brief a time.   Sorr...

Quick Cook - Risotto and Veggies

Eep, I did not take a picture.  But I promise it was good (I just finished eating it).  Besides, how well can risotto really photograph?  On to the super-quick dinner for 2. This is not a genius meal idea, but it was fast and tasty and I am full. I was starving and standing in my pantry thinking about how yummy and filling something like pasta  would be but also about how few veggies there had been in my day.  I always keep a few boxes of preservative free, no msg, yummy flavored risottos and rices in the pantry (I buy most of them at target) and I definitely always keep frozen mixed veggies in the freezer. So, you will need 1 box of Butternut Squash Risotto and about 2 cups of frozen mixed veggies or veggies of your choice. Start cooking the risotto according to package directions.  Defrost the frozen mixed veggies (I just run them under hot water then set them aside in a colander to drain).  When there are about 10 minutes left on the risotto...
