Fort Worth

I know this was totally long awaited and anticipated.  You all desperately wanted to know about my week at the convention in Fort Worth.  Let me just start by saying the convention center is next to the beautiful and relaxing Fort Worth water gardens and it was lovely to stroll through them everyday and to take a few minutes here and there to knit beside the different pools.  My main project for the week was the spiral eyelet socks for me that I had just started on the plane ride back from DC. The socks had a lovely time by what they call the Active Pool.  The constant flowing water sound is soothing and completely drowns out the traffic noises from the street. The socks also quite liked the Aerated Pool.  On hot days this was definitely the one to be at because the spray helped to cool you off for a bit. The socks and I had some quality time out there. But then......... the socks were waaaaaaaaaaay too big.  i got gauge when i swatched, but who knows what happened and suddenly the lie...

WWKIP Day

Going to the WWKIP day event in Tulsa and the Day of Yarny Goodness with the Tulsa Knitters Rav group.  Starts at 8am at the Farmer's Market on cherry street.  We will be knitting over on the patio of the grey snail until 11ish, I think.  Then those continuing on the day of yarny goodness will go upstairs to Jason's Deli for lunch and a yarn swap.  Then there is a yarn crawl around the city.  First we hit Lopps, then Stitchworks, then Stitches of Tulsa.  For our final event we will have our usual K1D2 (knit 1, drink 2) at Cosmos and giggle about our day.  It should be awesome!!!

I keep putting off updating

Because I want to add pictures.  So there will be a post soon (I swear, really) about knitting in Fort Worth with pretty pictures, for now you just get a random post. Been working on a lot of projects.  My current carry-around-in-my-purse type project is a super soft cloth for a potter at the farmers market (who happens to be a friend of Ben's) who gave me some adorable little cups one day.  And then I want to whip up another for this farmer (who also happens to be a friend of Ben's) because last week he stuffed a giant bunch of the yummiest smelling dill into my bag while we were over talking to the potter.  They shared their craft with me, so I want to share mine with them.  And hopefully it will make them smile.   The wedding went off without a hitch, for those of you who wondered how my brother's wedding went.  A good weekend, lots of fun.  I am impatiently awaiting the posting of the pictures on the photographer's website.  And from some other people who I know too...

3rd and Final Shower

At the third shower I did super soft bathy washcloths, with the exception of the frist cloth.  My brother was in town for this particular shower, so I also tried to make sure at least one of the designs would appeal to him.  The colors match the towels they register for, for the most part, and the I Love This Yarn brand yarn (it was my first time using it) is incredibly soft and wonderful to work with.  I really loved using it.  First we have, and I know its kind of hard to see in this picture, the wedding bands cloth made out of sinfonia that didn't quite make it into the present the day before.  It was close, but it just wasn't ready. Next is the cloth I made to appeal to my brother.  I was going to try and make a whole set with this theme, but I just ran out of time.  Oh well, maybe sometime in the future.  You all know what it is, right? The yarn was so soft.  I know I said that already.  I did a simple garter ridges cloth to match the towels.  Thats always a fun and simple...

Shower #2

Part 2 in our saga begins with a new yarn for me.  I hadn't actually ever bought or knit with Sinfonia before.  Its nice, although very slippery.  But it made for some thin, pretty, more decorative looking cloths, perhaps for the bathroom or guest bath.  I honestly have no idea how well it holds up under use and washing but I checked Rav to make sure people had used this yarn for washcloths before and there seemed to be some positive feedback. The first cloth is a W since she has used the monogram a lot on the wedding stuff and in the coasters and wine stopper on the registry.  She has also gotten plates, napkins, stationary, etc with the monogram from various people, so it fits in well. Cloth number 2 is your traditional grandmother's favorite cloth in a variegated sinfonia.  The fact that its garter stitch gives it more squish than the 2 picture cloths, so it seems to me if any of them would stand up to more use, it might be this one.  The earth tones should match her bathroo...

Rachel's First Shower

I spent a lot of time picking out some awesome yarns and knitting up a bunch of dishcloths, washcloths, and the like for my soon to be sister-in-law over the last few months. Finally over the last two weeks we have had 3 wedding showers for me to divide them up and give them all to her. I had to come up with a way to divide them up, so for shower number 1 I went with all the kitchen cloths. I managed to not get a picture of the Friendship Chain Cloth or the orange and black scrubbie that was completed in the car on the way to the shower and tied to the bow on top of the present. This is the Lionbrand dishcloth pattern. Its always knits up nicely and is a good one for pretty variegated yarns. :-) All of these dishcloths were Sugar and Cream naturals, btw. The little scrubbie above is also sugar and cream, even though the original pattern calls for acrylic yarns and has you spear the scrubbie on a fork and stick it in the dishwasher to clean it. I thought this might be easier. Bu...
