Experimenting with Spices

Way back right after Christmas I think I mentioned that Ben had given me a set of curry spices for Christmas. I love curry and I love to cook, so this was definitely a perfect gift. Yesterday, here in Oklahoma, we all received the gift of a perfect 70 degree day, so I decided to grill.

I don't tend to follow recipes and I was also trying to keep everything as healthy as possible, so the big grill basket of veggies got a spray of sesame oil, just enough to lightly coat, and a sprinkle of sweet curry powder.

There wasn't time to actually marinate the chicken in the tikka masala, so first I made a sauce with the spices and let that sit, then I sprayed the chicken breasts with the sesame oil and rubbed some spice in to them and tossed them on the grill.

Yum.

Once the veggies had come off the grill I tossed them with some sesame seeds that I had toasted. Be careful, those things can go from toasted to burnt in a split second.

Some mango chutney, naan bread and those crispy things that taste wonderful but I am sure I can't spell completed our meal. (its awesome that those crispy things can be cooked in the microwave in about 60 seconds. Its fun to watch them crinkle up)

I know I don't normally post about food, but it was such and easy but yummy dinner that I thought I would share.

This pretty plan Ben gave me for Valentine's Day. I had been saying I really wanted a green thing for my office and he went and found the hearty plant that doesn't need a ton of sun and only requires a little bit of water and has a beautiful red bloom in the middle.

It's in a really pretty pot and looks fantastic on the bookcase behind my desk (all my office furniture is black). So now I get to look at it everyday and think about how wonderful my husband is! There is a picture of us on our honeymoon that sits right next to the pretty plant, it's perfect.

Wow, this looks like quite an amazing meal! I am now hungry and have nothing delicious to eat, thank you! :) Love the greenery, too! I have a plant in my office as well, it is such a simple thing but helps perk up the mundane office surroundings :)

Ridiculously Easy 3x3 hat

So I was on my way out the door to the St. Louis Cardinals game a couple nights ago when I realized I didn't have any purse size knitting on hand. I grabbed a ball of bernat chunky and a pair of size 10 16" circs out of my travel bag and stuffed them into my purse to contemplate at the game. I wanted something so super easy that by the time the game started I wouldn't have to think about it. I feel almost silly sharing this pattern, but I figured why not. So here is the hat: I don't really intend to turn up the edge to make a brim, but my model had trouble keeping it on otherwise. Its really stretchy and should fit almost any adult head. Its long enough to cover your ears, so if you really want a brim, go ahead and flip up the edge. Ok, here goes the pattern: Ridiculously Easy 3x3 Hat Yarn: I used Bernat Chunky Needles: Size 10 16" Circs or preferred method of knitting in the round CO 60 stitches and join for knitting in the round. Production Day & Giveaway!

There is less than a week until the Arkansas Fiber Arts Extravaganza. Even though my stitch markers didn't move well at Indie Emporium, I have high hopes for them this coming weekend. This audience will be completely different, for starters. This time it is a fiber specific event and the people who are coming should actually know what they are! Despite not being very down in inventory, I decided to have a production day to add variety to my stock. It started out as me thinking, oh I'll just make a few today while I have some time. Then I got going and decided I was having fun, so why not have some Chai and make some more. Riley helped by pushing me off the sofa more than once. Ripley did too, but I didn't catch a picture of him doing it. By mid afternoon I had opened new beads, fixed myself a tray of grapes and cheese, finished off the chai and was grooving at a pretty good pace.
