I did not do enough prep work to come up with fabulous giveaways or some huge celebratory post, but it is my birthday. It is a big birthday and I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, but its not like I could stop time. What are you gonna do, right?
Rather than dwell on this, let me show you the baby car seat blanket I finished yesterday.
It is the absolute softest organic cotton ever and it was so very wonderful to work on.
The yarn is Blue Sky Organic Cotton. Yum.
I'm sure the $55 price tag on it seems steep to some, but I knit on it exclusively for 3 days.
(I have found that on 90% of all my items I make less than minimum wage if I calculate it out. Hmm.)
For the knitterly out there, it took two luscious skeins and its a basic Grandmother's Favorite pattern in stockinette in the center rather than garter. I think the simplicty of the pattern shows off the beautiful yarn to its full advantage. The yarn is a twist of one strand of white and one strand of a beigey-tan.
I think the outdoor shots capture the color better, but here are couple shots of the blanket laid out on the guest bed. It hadn't been blocked before the pictures, so it will look a little more perfectly square once that has been done.
I think cotton is a perfect material for babies and especially right now and we are coming in to spring. Or dreaming about coming in to spring. I do hope to get a couple more of these made before the ARF show, preferably in different colors. And some baby hats in matching or complimentary color ways. I got a cute one done last night that I will have to post pictures of soon.
Back to that whole birthday thing. My friends and I got together on Saturday night, remember the pretty cake picture? So that was celebration #1. #2 was last night when my sweet knitting group got together for our usual monday knit night and I got cards and yummy dinner and good company. #3 will be tonight when I get to spend the night with just my wonderful husband. I don't know yet what we will do, whethere we will go out to have a nice dinner in a restaurant or grab some chinese food and be cozy at home, but either way we will be together and that is what is most important.
Thank you to everyone who reads my blog, has hearted my shop or is a fan on facebook. Your support is a wonderful present both today on my birthday and everyday. Even as I appreciate every new fan or follower, I want to especially thank those who have been there since the beginning. I remember who you are.
Everyone, have a happy March 1!
