Much Ado About a Birthday

My godsister asked me if I feel older.  Not really, unless you count the fact that I actually wanted to go to bed early last night (plans of which were foiled by the night owl sister, but thats ok).

At my office we ate delicious trifle in celebration of my birthday.  Yum.  I have chosen that instead of cake the last 3 years for my office dessert.  Some of my coworkers think I am odd, but how can you go wrong with custardy pudding, cakey stuff, lots of fruit, liquor, and whipped cream.  Not to mention the plum jelly in there somewhere.  Now I have to wait until next Christmas (probably) before I see a really good trifle again.  (My friend's mom makes one every year at Christmas and its her recipe my mom uses on my birthday.)

After work it was time to celebrate with Ben.  He asked if I wanted to go see Gnomeo and Juliet and I almost said yes but then I went outside and it was so wonderful out there that I decided we should eat chinese take-out and then take the dogs on a nice long walk.  Those little porkers need the exercise and I thought we should take advantage of the nice weather and quiet time together.  (After the walk we negated all exercise benefits by noshing on left over cake from my saturday birthday party)
A little Dexter rounded out my birthday evening.

Oh, what did I get?  Ben got me a beautiful flower pot (I should have taken a picture.  I will post a picture later) and some nice heavy duty gardening tools (my others are either old or plastic) AND two more John McCutcheon CDs.  Yes, I know I am weird.  I love his music.  LOVE.

Also yesterday I listed this cute little hat in my etsy shop.  I whipped it up monday evening and I think its adorable.  Its a baby version of the Emerson Ice Cream Hat from back in January.
I love how the color pooled to create a swirl.

I was experimenting with different places in the house to photograph the hat because by the time I got to that it was very dark outside.

I wonder why I never thought to stick a hat on my bamboo before.  It worked pretty well.

So there you have it, my big birthday came and went and I did not have a nervous breakdown.  Aren't you proud of me?

As a present to you, in case you don't read Lovely By M, one of the places I am sponsoring this month, I wanted to let you know that I am offering free shipping in my Etsy shop with the code LOVELY2011.
I am also excited to be sponsoring over at LCH this month.  Kaelah and I share a birthday month, so it seemed like a fabulous time to sponsor over there.  I also want to give a Happy Birthday shout out to Annie of Wattlebird.  Its a good month for a birthday all my fishy friends!

ok, off to meet another day.  You have a fabulous one!

Happy belated birthday to you! The way that yarn moves on that hat is great! And I agree, the hat on the bamboo works wonderfully for photos - isn't it funny trying to figure out what places work well for that? :) I think Dexter is a wonderful way to end your birthday day! I LOVE that show!

GIVEAWAY!!!

As many of you know, I love working with hand dyed yarn.  I especially love Farm Girl Fiber yarn!  Bridgette has an eye for color and has a lot of fun with what she does.  That is why I am so super thrilled that Farm Girl Fiber is sponsoring this giveaway in honor of my opening an etsy shop!   Before the goods, a recap:  I made this Acorn Head hooded cowl for myself on Christmas this year.  I've known pretty much since I bought the yarn exactly what it was going to be, I just had to find time to do it.  This cowl was out of my FGF birthday yarn!  You can't tell in the picture, but it has just this hind of sparkle to it.  Love! I made 2 of these for two different swaps and I really wish I had made and kept one for myself while she still had the yarn!  It was so super soft and super bulky and fantastic!  Sometimes Farm Girl Fiber has very limited lots of things, so if you find something you love, you really need to snatch it up. ...
